| | | | | | | | Paper Options for MAPSearch Maps | | The following are the 3 paper options a client has with any MAPSearch map that is delivered out of the Houston office
Regular Bond:
- Specifications: This is a 36-pound, matte bond.
- Description: It is a good-quality map paper that has no finish to it. The paper is on the heavy side and holds ink well, but this paper is NOT waterproof.
- Application: General use – this works well hung on a wall as-is. Regular bond can survive multiple folding or rolling without excessive dimpling and crinkling of the paper surface. This would be your first choice if the map were to be framed behind glass.
Glossy:
- Specifications: This is a 9-mil, glossy, micro-porous photobase.
- Description: The paper has a high gloss finish to it. This new micro-porous version of the gloss photobase has better water-resistant properties than previous gloss stocks however; it is NOT waterproof.
- Application: The gloss stock looks very good on the wall without framing.
Backlit Film:
- Specifications: This is a 4 mil, polyester, backlit film.
- Description: This is a newly available medium in which the map image is printed in reverse on the back of a clear film. When the map is mounted on a wall, table, or light box, the film is safe for use with dry erase markers. The front of the map is waterproof. The back of the map is water resistant, but can still be damaged by direct contact with water.
- Application: Inexpensive alternative to laminating a paper map. Safe for use with dry erase markers. Very useful in light boxes and as presentation graphics.
