Upgrading existing hydropower plants can often provide additional power and energy at less than one-tenth the cost of a new project.

Now, three Technical Guidelines, developed by a work group of the International Energy Agency (IEA) within the Agreement for Hydropower Technologies and Programmes, are available to help project owners and managers complete such upgrades successfully.

Presented on CD-ROM, the Guidelines are designed to help medium to small producers make the best technical and financial decisions in upgrading plant equipment. Each Technical Guideline identifies key steps and considerations in successfully implementing any upgrade.
