9/11 Tenth Anniversary Remembrance

Fallen Heroes: A Tribute from Fire Engineering was published in 2001 to honor the courageous men and women who responded to the September 11, 2001 attacks on America. This beautifully-bound, 160-page tribute details the tragic events of the attacks. The book includes a photo gallery with biographies of the fallen firefighters, firsthand reports from Ground Zero and the Pentagon, and reactions from around the world. Proceeds will benefit the Fire Engineering Courage and Valor Foundation.

Each yearís income from the Courage and Valor Foundation is awarded to the firefighter (or his or her family) who has exhibited exemplary courage and valor in a rescue operation during the preceding year and in honor of the firefighters who sacrificed their lives on September 11. The Ray Downey Courage and Valor Award will be presented annually at the FDIC Conference and Exhibition in Indianapolis, beginning in April 2002. The award is named after NYC Deputy Chief Ray Downey, who lost his life in the Sept. 11 tragedy. Downey was an author for Fire Engineering Books and an instructor at FDIC.

We appreciate the work firefighters do and the contributions they make to their communities. We are saddened by the loss of all the victims on September 11, especially those firefighters and rescuers who died doing the job they loved. Our hearts go out to those everyday heroes who responded to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on America--from the responders who arrived first on the scene to the volunteers who heard about the acts of terrorism on TV and knew they had to help. We thank you for your tireless efforts and generous deeds.
